MALAWI PROJECT
Malawi is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the World; located in Eastern Africa surrounded by Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Malawi has been dubbed "the warm heart of Africa." because of the friendliness of its people.
Children in Malawi receive free primary education but must pay for secondary (High School) Education. First children must pass a test to get into a secondary school. Then they must pay $105 each year to attend. With a per capita annual income of $190 in Malawi, many families cannot afford to send their children to school. The HIV AIDS situation in Malawi has worsened the problem as many children have become orphaned with parents dying of the disease.
When Rose Cabot first visited Malawi she was overwhelmed by the poverty she saw. Rose describes that "after a few days I felt overwhelmed with a sadness of what I saw around me and decided then that I needed to do something that could make a difference even if it was for just one child. During the next few trips back to Malawi I brought with me medical supplies but after September 11th that was no longer possible so my dream took on a new life which has become the MALAWI PROJECT."
The purpose of the MALAWI PROJECT is to provide funds for children to attend secondary school.
